Use PRNext in four steps

Start with an existing Next.js project and Node.js 22.23.4+ in the 22.x line, 24.22.1+ in the 24.x line, or a supported version from 26.12.1 onward. Run the commands from your project folder.

Keep your work on a branch. PRNext is an alpha with partial Next.js compatibility, so check your application as you go.

Install PRNext

Run this command from your project folder. Keep the updated lockfile so subsequent installations use the same dependency set.

Terminal
npm install @thomas.f/prnext

Migrate your scripts

Move your dev, build and start scripts to PRNext, then run the compatibility check. Add --dry-run to the migration command if you want to inspect its changes first. Read any reported incompatibilities before continuing.

Terminal
npx --no-install prnext migrate .
npx --no-install prnext check .

Develop your application

Start the development server and open the address printed in your terminal. Edit a component, save it and check the result in your browser. Test at least one route change and one interaction you use in your project.

Terminal
npx --no-install prnext dev .

Build and run

Build the application, then start the generated output locally. Check the same pages, forms and API routes before deploying. A working development session is not enough to validate the production build, especially with an experimental runtime.

Terminal
npx --no-install prnext build .
npx --no-install prnext start .
